INTRODUCTION Silicon nitride has the potential for high thermal conductance and is a candidate substrate material for power transistors. Thermal conductivity in silicon nitride is enhanced by high temperature sintering with a prolonged sintering time [l, 21. On the other hand, thermal conductivity is also influenced by defects in the lattice and secondary phases of silicon nitride and is generally degraded by the presence of grain boundary glassy phases and oxygen impurities in the lattice [3].

Publication [S] suggests healing the surface defects of composites by various methods. There are also other known attempts to increase ceramic materials' resistance to thermal shocks by way of increasing their strength. However, the main reason for destruction of materials under thermal shocks is the tension resulting from rapid modifications in their volume. Therefore, decreasing the value of thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) of these materials would be more appropriate in order to increase their resistance to thermal shocks.
